Cadair Berwyn Wall Art Prints and Thin Canvas

New to The Art Locker, this glorious 10+ layer view of the British countryside, from the summit of Cadair Berwyn.

This beautiful image was captured early on a February morning in 2023, and is available as a museum-quality wall or print or slimline canvas.

Rolling hills reveal a fog-filled valley, and layer upon layer of countryside leads the eye into an aircraft moving through a cloudy morning sky.

It’s available in a variety of sizes on either wall canvas, or as a print. Here’s a zoomed-in view of those valley trees in the early morning cloud.

It took 3 days to capture this image! Yes, really.

I climbed Cadair Berwyn mountain to capture some images and timelapse video in February 2023. I took my tent and planned to wild camp on the summit, giving me a couple of decent opportunities to capture something amazing.

I had a fantastic sunset, but the fog quickly rolled in just after dusk and surrounded my little wild camping spot with clag. So I stayed another night, a great excuse for a 3-day trip. Right?

Morning two was fantastic. The fog had eased but the air remained humid, giving this lovely warm glow to the air as the sun rose up over Shropshire in the distance.

Brilliant. I love the views from Cadair Berwyn, and I’m pleased to offer this shot in The Art Locker.

I’ll make a full blog post on the route in the next few weeks, and there will be a behind-the-scenes YouTube video at some point too.

Cadair Berwyn

Cadair Berwyn is a mountain located in North Wales and is part of the Berwyn range. It is the highest point in the range, standing at 830 meters (2,723 feet) above sea level. This mountain is a popular destination for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts due to its stunning panoramic views and challenging terrain, and a perfect mountain summit for photographers!

The name Cadair Berwyn comes from the Welsh language, where "Cadair" means chair and "Berwyn" means "place of the white head". The Berwyn range is located between Llangollen in Denbighshire and Bala in Gwynedd, and is known for its rugged, wild and quiet landscape.

The Cadair Berwyn walk I took is one of the most popular hikes in the region and offers a challenging yet rewarding experience. The walk starts from the Pistyll Rhaeadr car park, which is a short drive from the village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant. From the car park, the route follows a well-marked path that takes you through open moorland, rocky paths, boggy ground and grassy slopes.

The ascent to the summit of Cadair Berwyn is steep and rocky, requiring a good level of fitness and experience in hillwalking, I found it quite difficult with 30kg of camera gear. However, the effort is well worth it, as hikers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, it is possible to see as far as Snowdonia and out to the Irish Sea. On this occasion, I was lucky enough to see many of the Snowdonia mountains I love so much surrounded by low fog and clouds.

The walk also takes in a number of other landmarks along the way, including the impressive Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, which is the tallest waterfall in Wales, and Llyn Lluncaws, cheese lake (more on that in the video), a beautiful glacial lake set against the backdrop of the Berwyn Range. Wildlife is also abundant on the walk, with red kites, buzzards, and mountain hares often seen along the route.

The Cadair Berwyn walk is approximately 12 miles long and takes around 7-8 hours to complete, or 3 days at the worst…..! The route is well-signposted and is suitable for walkers of all abilities with a good level of fitness. I’d advise coming prepared with sturdy walking boots, warm and waterproof clothing, and plenty of food and water, you never know how long you might be there….

In my opinion, Cadair Berwyn is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the natural beauty of North Wales. The challenging yet rewarding hike to its summit offers stunning views, impressive landmarks, and an opportunity to connect with nature in a truly wild and unspoilt landscape. Brilliant. Why not consider giving wild camping a go too? I’ll have a full detailed blog post up soon, be sure to check that out.

Thanks

Chris
