Samyang 100mm f2.8 Macro - Sony FE

Why the F do I own the Samyang 100mm Macro lens? I have no idea.

I took it out for a spin in my local park to try to remember.

Testing the Samyang 100mm f2.8 macro lens

You can pick this up for under £300, which is a bit of a bargain for Sony FE fit glass, you can look for it on AMAZON, but if possible, I’d highly recommend purchasing it from WEX.

Part of the reason for the low cost is because it’s manual focus only, so if you don’t mind that, then it’s a bargain.

The focus is nice and smooth. I find it’s very coarse out towards infinity, but then a lot finer back at the macro distances. Perfect.

A big downside to the Samyang 100mm is that it’s not weather-sealed. This is a shame. IMO, macro lenses should be fun to use in the rain.

I’d be tempted to think this may make an interesting lens for portraits, but the lack of autofocus will probably annoy you.

How about landscapes, worth a go? No, not really. I found it soft out towards infinity.

The bokeh is nice, and the macro focus is great. That of course is the reason you’d buy this lens in the first place, and it does do those things well.

I enjoyed taking it out, mostly, but it was a bit frustrating to use. You’ll see some sample pics in the video. Not sure I’d recommend it.
