Coffee under a tarp video

Yet another high quality fundamentally brilliant and imaginative video of a bloke drinking some coffee in the woods. How exciting.

Just coffee under a tarp, on a rainy day in July

It’s mid-July in 2023, and I’m pretty sure I’m living in some kind of parallel universe. Perhaps the simulation is broken, there’s a glitch in the matrix, or I’ve finally gone cuckoo, because anytime I look at the news (which I do rarely and reluctantly), it tells me we’re heading for an apocalyptic climate catastrophe. The charts are all a new fiery red, and it’s the “hottest summer since records began”.

Opinions aside, after a few WEEKS of cooler-than-normal rainy weather, I grabbed my coat (yes, in mid-summer, this is England), and my wellies, and headed for the woods to make another video of some bloke drinking coffee.

I told myself it was to test a new lens. Which it was, and I did, more on that below… but quite possibly it was just an excuse to get out into the woods again. It’s cool to just sit around and listen to the rain sometimes. Sip some coffee, play with a new 135mm f1.8 bokeh monster, and chill.

I’ve recently quit social media, all but YouTube, we’ll see how that goes… but for now, it was nice to sit here while abstaining from the digital cocaine, and after a few hours doing something like this it really does put things in perspective. The simple things eh? This helps.

The lens is a new Samyang 135mm f1.8, and it was bloody awesome to use. Difficult, but awesome all the same. I’ve made a review and blog post here. Samyang 135mm f1.8

After the intense anti-social chill session, I returned home to edit the video while watching the smoke pour from the flue of my neighbour’s wood burner as they heated the house, through my rain-covered window, in mid-July. Welcome to England.

Out.

Maybe consider checking out my “Coffee in the woods” series? I’m filming an episode every month for a year.

Shot with a Sony A7iii, 135mm f1.8 and NTG mic. More info is in the GEAR section.
