It’s not unusual - July 2023
July has seen me doing a load of abstract industrial drone photography, I love this kind of thing. Some of it will make its way into The Art Locker eventually, but for now, here’s a preview…
I also got out into Birmingham to take some shots around Five Ways Tower, a 23-storey commercial building that has been derelict since 2005. A huge shame, but some great photography (and urbex and graffiti) opportunities.
I managed to spend a load of time in the woods. Firstly to film “Coffee in the woods - July”, of course, and then to test some new lenses and just chill in the rain. It has done nothing but piss it down all month. Why not get out and enjoy it?

I covered a bit of horse racing on the green green grass of Newbury Racecourse, which is not unusual, nor was the rain, but Tom Jones is. He brought a brolly.
Speaking of horse racing, I also went to Newmarket for the July meeting to do some “hose” racing with Tracker F.

I spent a great few days in Norwich., capturing some brilliant shots of Norwich city center. I particularly liked this one, an aerial shot of Norwich Market…
It took quite a while to capture. Between getting told off by a passing taxi driver for flying a drone in a “no-fly zone”, dive bombing seagulls, and drunken teenagers, it was quite the mission, but I escaped safely and even got a shot of one of the culprits.
The British Open took place in Liverpool. I missed it this year, although looking at the weather forecast I can’t say I was too disappointed, as I hid under my tarp in the woods. It did remind me of this though, a shot of when I raced a DJI Inspire 2 drone up a beach against Jamie Carragher, Tony Bellew, and the Claret Jug. Fun shoot.

The month was rounded off superbly with a rare opportunity to fly this beautifully restored Piper Cub. It was in the skies over Normandy during D-Day. What a privilege.
